About HollandPTC
HollandPTC is an independent clinic for proton therapy. In addition, HollandPTC is a research partner within the proton therapy R&D consortium of HollandPTC and her founders TU Delft, Leiden University Medical Center and Erasmus Medical Center. The mission of the R&D consortium is understanding, enhancing and improving the added value of proton therapy for patient and society. In line with this, there is a consortium R&D program with >40 PhD tracks. Besides being a research partner, HollandPTC hosts research facilities that are crucial for the execution of research projects within the R&D program. One of those facilities is the ‘R&D beamline’, consisting of an R&D bunker with a fixed horizontal proton beamline and labs for preparing physics, technical and biological experiments. The technical staff of the R&D beamline facility consists of a radiation biologist, a physics technician, and the R&D beamline scientist/coordinator.
This is what you will do as a R&D beamline scientist/coordinator
The R&D beamline scientist/coordinator will have the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Coordination of the beamline staff of 2 technicians.
- Management of the R&D beamline as user facility. This entails financial management, maintenance, quality assurance, beamtime scheduling, project management and further development of the facility infrastructure.
- Interaction with users, i.e. academic researchers and commercial parties
- Providing support, guidance, and education of users in the performance of experiments at the R&D beamline and gantries.
- Assistance of users in the preparation of project proposals, possibly as co-proposer.
- Supervision of bachelor and master student projects.
- Co-supervision of PhD students and postdocs carrying out their research at the R&D beamline.
- Contributing to data interpretation and the publication of results.
- Promoting the use of the HollandPTC beamline in scientific meetings, workshops, etc.
- Pursuing own research line or active participation in research projects.
- Responsibility for adhering to regulatory and safety requirements, for conventional and radiation safety.
- Active acquisition of new users, both academic and commercial.
Qualifications and skills
Our ideal candidate has the following profile:
- Holds a PhD degree in the field of (Applied) Physics or a related discipline.
- Has knowledge of, and experience with, particle beams, related equipment, and pertinent data analysis methods for answering scientific questions in a broad context.
- Has experience with business/management tasks.
- Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, is able to operate within a multi-disciplinary team and is motivated to develop collaborations with other academic and commercial parties.
- Works in a structured, result-driven way, has excellent organizational and planning skills and actively identifies and pursuits opportunities.
- Has demonstrated commitment to technical and scientific excellence.
- Minimum level 5/TMS-D expertise in radiation protection.
- Proficiency in English, written and spoken.
You are flexible and do not mind to work outside regular office hours as the beamline schedule requires this.
Being able to present a certificate of good conduct is a condition for the appointment.
This is what we offer
We offer a full-time (36 hours/week) employment. You will be appointed for 1 year with the prospect of a permanent position. The gross monthly salary is max € 6.402,- (scale 11), depending on your record and qualifications. The terms of employment are according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Dutch University Medical Centers (CAO UMC). We also offer favorable benefits, such as a commuting allowance of € 0.23 per kilometer/or public transport reimbursement and a supplement to the WAZO allowance for paid parental leave and additional birth leave up to 100% of your salary. Furthermore, you will receive 8% vacation allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. We follow the CAO UMC.
