Improving toxicity modelling, patient selection and clinical outcome of proton therapy in low grade glioma

Description

The overall goal of this project is to gain insight into radiation-induced toxicity and into the effect of proton dose distributions through biological modelling. This knowledge will better define the role of proton therapy in reducing side effects in patients with low grade glioma (LGG).

Specific aims:

  • To simplify the Dutch selection criteria for proton therapy applied to LGG.
  • To improve the complication prediction after proton therapy for LGG by including biological calculations (modelling).
  • To relate physical and biological dose distributions with white matter changes and cognitive function after radiotherapy for LGG.
  • To compare the impact of proton and photon therapy on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and human resources economics for LGG.
